New TV Ad: Smith Stands With Special Interests, Not With Oregon
The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee today responded to Gordon Smith’s attack ads against Democratic Senate candidates with a new television advertisement exposing Smith’s support for tax breaks for special interests that ship jobs overseas, big oil companies, and the wealthy instead of help for Oregon families.
“Instead of supporting Oregon families at a time when they need it most, Gordon Smith stands up for the special interests that ship jobs overseas and keep gas prices through the roof,” DSCC spokesman Matthew Miller said. “Gordon Smith knows he’ll lose a campaign that centers on his record in Washington, so he’s already started running personal attacks rather than debate his history of siding with the special interests.”

“Gordon Smith is out of tune with Oregon’s interests,” DPO Chair Meredith Wood Smith said. “He has been criticized by Oregon newspapers and his own supporters for his contradictions, fact bending and inaccuracies. He votes with President Bush 90 percent of the time, opposes U.S. Sen. Ron Wyden’s effort to combat climate change and does not believe in a woman’s right to choose. Gordon Smith sings from the same page as the special interests and remains out of tune with the interests of Oregon’s working families.”

The video and protests come one year after Smith's speech from the floor of the U.S. Senate that he opposed the Iraq War, and only days after we learned 3,500 more Oregonians will head out to Iraq. Smith has continued voting to keep troops in Iraq and prolong the war and has proven he will say anything to win re-election. Hold Smith accountable on Wednesday.

"365 Days" Video
We are almost exactly one year away from Election Day 2008. One year from now, will voters choose a candidate who will stand for Oregon, or with President Bush?
“A year from now, Oregonians will have the opportunity to choose change or more of the same,” DPO Chair Meredith Wood Smith said. “They can choose more of someone who has stood by President Bush’s conservative U.S. Supreme Court, his Iraq War and his Republican agenda. Or, they can choose someone who will stand up for Oregon. I hope everyone who views this video will sign up to help us defeat Gordon Smith and send a progressive U.S. Senator to Washington, DC.”

Red Senator In A Blue State
In less than 10 minutes, Secretary of State Bill Bradbury declares why Oregonians should not be fooled by Gordon Smith’s campaign rhetoric.
Smith has a history of campaigning as Blue in Oregon, but voting Red in Washington, DC, Bradbury says.
Bradbury ran against Smith in 2002. He says Smith’s 2008 campaign conversions remind him of their 2002 contest.
In this October 5, 2007 speech at the DPO’s Oregon Summit in Sunriver, Bradbury addressed Smith’s:
-opposition to pulling troops out of Iraq
-dangerous environmental record supporting drilling in ANWR, opposing alternative energy and earning atrocious grades from environmental interests
-40 percent score from Disabled American Veterans
-90 percent voting record with President Bush
